B. GRAMMAR
1. Conjuctions : both ....and, not only ....but also, either...or, neither...nor
Các liên từ: both .... and (cả … lẫn…)
not only … but also (không những … mà còn)
either … or (hoặc … hoặc…)
neither … nor (không … cũng không…)
Ex1: Tom was late. So was Ann. (Tom đi trễ. Ann cũng vậy.)
---> Both Tom and Ann were late. (Cả Tom lẫn Ann đều trễ.)
Ex2: She is intelligent. She is also beautiful. (Cô ta thông minh. Cô ta còn xinh đep.)
---> She is not only intelligent but also beautiful.
(Cô ta không những thông minh mà còn xinh đẹp.)
Ex3: You can take this book or that one, not two of them.
(Anh có thể lấy quyển sách này hoặc quyển kia, không lấy cả hai.)
---> You can take either this book or that one.
(Anh có thể lấy hoặc quyển sách này hoặc quyển kia.)
Ex4: She didn’t write and she didn’t phone. (Cô ta không viết thư và không gọi điện.)
---> She neither wrote nor phoned.
(Cô ta không viết thư cũng không gọi điện.)
** Lưu ý cách chia động từ **
a/ both gì thì and đó, either gì thì or đó, ......
tức là trong cấu trúc này 2 vế phải "giống nhau" tức là noun đi với noun, verb đi với verb, adj đi với adj, adverbial phrase đi với adverbial phrase, ....
b/ Đối với neither ... nor ... và either ... or ... thì động từ chia theo chủ ngữ ở phía sau:
----Either you or he is right
----Either he or you are wrong
----Either they or I am right
----Neither he nor I am sad
----Neither she nor you are happy
2. Cleft sentence in the passive
a. It + is / was + Noun / pronoun (person) + who + be + P.P…
Ex: Fans gave that singer a lot of flowers.
→ It was that singer who was given a lot of flowers.
(Chính người ca sĩ đó được tặng rất nhiều hoa)
b. It + is/ was + Noun (thing) + that + be + P.P…
Ex: People talk about this film.
→ It is this film that is talked about.
(Chính bộ phim này là cái được nói đến)
- Fans gave that singer a lot of flowers.
→ It was a lot of flowers that were given to that singer.
(Chính nhiều hoa đã được tặng cho người ca sĩ)
